## Intifada

Our next set of experiments pair the key word *intifada*
with each of the four refugee camps, including as before the two spellings of Jabalya.
The combined result experiment was not statistically significant. However, it is interesting
that there is a relatively compact table pairing the key word *intifada* with
the key word *Jabalya* spelled with one Yod. With expected number of ELSs set to 10,
the probability that a text from the ELS random placement text population would produce
as small a table as this is 46.5/1,000.

The fact that the key word *intifada* seems to have some relationship with the key word
Jabalya suggested that we look further. Rabbi Glazerson thought of trying the date. The date the
intifada started is December 9, 1987 and this corresponds to the Hebrew data the 18th of Kislev
of the year 5748. First we add the key word * 18 of Kislev*. With expected number of ELSs
set to 10, the probability that a text from the ELS random placement text population would produce
as small a table as the one produced by the Torah text is 33.5/1,000.

Next we added the year (5)*748* to the key word *Intifada*. With expected number of
ELSs set to 10, the probability that a text from the ELS random placement text population would produce
as small a table as the one produced by the Torah text is .757, certainly not statistically significant.
Yet to the naive eye, perhaps the resulting table appears relatively compact. Of course it is not
relatively compact.

Adding the *18th Kislev* date and *Jabalya* as key words with *intifada* produced a table that is 16 rows by 137 columns and so it is
awkward to show. With the expected number of ELSs set to 10, the probability that a text from the
ELS random placement text population would produce as small a table as this 16 rows by 137 column
table is 9.5/1,000.

When an event is encoded, the encoded tables as determined with our current methodology,
give some of the main headlines of the event. A key word like *intifada* is surely
one of the key words that would be involved as we already have seen. But we felt that there ought
to be more. After some snooping around the ELSs of *intifdada*,
we found it in a compact meeting with *PLO, Fatah, and Arab*. Had these been a priori
chosen key words, the probability of a text having as compact a table as that produced by the
Torah text is 13/1,000.
