The Facts:
- Kiddushin 30A says that we no longer know whether various optional letters like vav and yud should be in the text
or not.
- There is a tradition that in the time of one of the kings that
worshipped Baal that the Torah was so suppressed that afterwards the Sages had to
reconstruct the text from the three copies they could find using majority rule.
- There are over 100 differences between the currently used text and some of the
known medieval manuscripts. The Leningrad codex is 48 letters longer than the Koren
edition. If the Leningrad codex is used, the WRR result becomes 1000 times less
significant.
